Pest Control in Oskaloosa, Iowa

Oskaloosa's downtown square, William Penn University a few blocks off it, and the farmland pressing in on every edge of town give this city three overlapping pest worlds. Our Albia headquarters is 30 minutes south, and we run Oskaloosa as a regular stop, usually the same week we're already in Pella or Knoxville.

A short history of Oskaloosa

Oskaloosa was platted in 1844 by Quaker settlers led by Nathan Boone Wilson and named for Ouscaloosa, a Muscogee (Creek) woman who was the wife of a Seminole chief. The Quaker influence was strong enough that William Penn University — originally Penn College — was founded here in 1873 and is still one of only a handful of Quaker-affiliated universities in the United States.

From the 1880s through the 1920s Oskaloosa, like much of southern Iowa, was coal-country: more than 30 small coal towns surrounded the city at the industry's peak. Today the Nelson Pioneer Farm and Museum on the north edge of town preserves an entire 19th-century farming village.

Oskaloosa is also the home of the Iowa Sprint Boat Racing scene at Southern Iowa Speedway and is known across the Midwest for its bandstand on the city square — the site of free Thursday-night summer concerts since 1912.

Services we provide in Oskaloosa

Common Oskaloosa pest problems

Homes around the historic square: stone foundations and mature landscaping mean mice show up reliably every fall and ants every spring — the two most common calls we get in town.

Farm and acreage properties on the edge of Oskaloosa: mice, voles, and occasional rural rats are a year-round issue, and outbuildings usually need their own treatment plan separate from the house.

William Penn University-area rentals: typical college-housing pests — ants, spiders, and the occasional rodent — with some cockroach inquiries we identify and refer as needed.

Cockroach and bed bug calls in older homes and rental units run year-round, and we treat those discreetly with scheduled follow-up.
