A short history of Oskaloosa
Oskaloosa was platted in 1844 by Quaker settlers led by Nathan Boone Wilson and named for Ouscaloosa, a Muscogee (Creek) woman who was the wife of a Seminole chief. The Quaker influence was strong enough that William Penn University β originally Penn College β was founded here in 1873 and is still one of only a handful of Quaker-affiliated universities in the United States.
From the 1880s through the 1920s Oskaloosa, like much of southern Iowa, was coal-country: more than 30 small coal towns surrounded the city at the industry's peak. Today the Nelson Pioneer Farm and Museum on the north edge of town preserves an entire 19th-century farming village.
Oskaloosa is also the home of the Iowa Sprint Boat Racing scene at Southern Iowa Speedway and is known across the Midwest for its bandstand on the city square β the site of free Thursday-night summer concerts since 1912.

Common Oskaloosa pest problems
Older homes around the historic square have stone foundations, mature landscaping, and a long history of pest pressure. Mice in fall and ants in spring are the dominant calls.
Agricultural-edge homes deal with mice, voles, and the occasional rural rat year-round. Outbuildings need their own treatment plan.
William Penn University rentals see typical college-housing pests: ants, spiders, occasional rodents, and roach inquiries (note: we don't treat roaches β but we identify and refer if needed).
Cockroach and bed bug calls come from rentals and older homes year-round β discreet treatment with follow-up included.
