A short history of Clive

Clive grew up around a Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad stop and incorporated in 1956 with fewer than 500 residents. The old rail line through town is now the Clive Greenbelt Trail.

The city built its identity around that greenbelt, preserving the Walnut Creek corridor as parkland instead of subdividing it — which is why Clive today is one of the most heavily wooded suburbs in the Des Moines metro.
