Pest Control in Ankeny, Iowa

New roofs, new sod, and new problems: Ankeny's growth off Oralabor Road and through Prairie Trail and Prairie Ridge means most of the calls we take here are about houses under ten years old, not fifty. That changes the pest math — new construction has its own quirks, and we treat it differently than the older stock we see in Des Moines proper.

A short history of Ankeny

Ankeny was platted in 1875 along the Des Moines and Minneapolis Railroad and named for John Fletcher Ankeny, a Civil War veteran and Iowa railroad investor. For its first 60 years it was a small farm town of fewer than 1,000 people.

World War II changed everything. The Des Moines Ordnance Plant — a 19,000-acre munitions facility — was built on Ankeny's edge in 1941 and at peak operation employed more than 19,000 workers. After the war, John Deere bought the site in 1947 and converted it into the Des Moines Works, today one of the largest agricultural equipment plants in North America. Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) opened its main campus here in 1966.

From 2010 to 2020 Ankeny was repeatedly ranked one of the fastest-growing cities in the United States, more than doubling in population over two decades. New construction in Prairie Trail, Prairie Ridge, and along NE 36th still defines the look of the city today.

Services we provide in Ankeny

Common Ankeny pest problems

New construction (first 2–3 years): disturbed soil, fresh landscaping, and bright exterior lighting around new builds in Prairie Trail, Prairie Ridge, and the newer subdivisions off Oralabor Rd create ideal spider hunting conditions almost immediately after move-in.

Established Ankeny neighborhoods: pavement ants nesting under driveways and slabs are the single most common ant complaint we get citywide, worst in midsummer heat.

Any age of home, every fall: mice find gaps around utility penetrations, garage thresholds, and foundation joints — builders leave more of these than people expect, even in brand-new homes.

The District and DMACC-area rentals and apartments: cockroach and bed bug calls run year-round here, and we handle them with discreet scheduling and follow-up visits.

Ankeny pest control FAQ

Very common. Fresh landscaping, disturbed soil, and bright exterior lighting on new builds attract spiders almost immediately; a perimeter treatment in the first year usually solves it for good.
