A short history of Grimes
Grimes was platted in 1880 along the Des Moines and Northwestern Railway and named for James W. Grimes, Iowa's third governor and later a U.S. Senator.
The town stayed under 2,000 people into the 1990s. Development along Highway 141 has since pushed the population past 15,000, with major distribution and manufacturing employers arriving alongside the housing.
